Little Free Library (www.littlefreelibrary.org) is a worldwide nonprofit organization where you can find information about this effort, locate a Little Free Library or learn how to create, register, and maintain a Little Free Library.
I have joined the movement and in addition to starting a Little Free Library in my front yard, I have created a Facebook page for local information and a list of registered libraries. We are not an organized group, but are individuals dedicated to promoting reading and literacy one book at-a-time. We each have to name our library when we register it with LittleFreeLibrary.org. We can then add our library to their worldwide map so others can locate it. Some choose not to register and that is okay, however their library will not show up on the map.
There is a Dual Grand Opening celebration of my library and my neighbor’s library happening Saturday. October 14th from 10am to noon (see attached flyer) which is open to the public. We hope everyone will join us for a ribbon cutting, refreshments, and prizes! See flyer for more information.
There is also a national organization called Little Free Pantry (www.littlefreepantry.org) whose mission is : The Little Free Pantry utilizes a familiar, compelling concept to pique local interest in and action against local food insecurity. The Little Free Pantry offers a place around which neighbors might coalesce to meet neighborhood needs, whether for food or for fun. There is one pantry here in Sierra Vista which operates in conjunction with a Little Free Library.
